Despite a huge history of shared culture, relations between India and Pakistan have been complex and largely hostile due to a number of historical and political events. The relationship was defined by a violent partition of British India in 1947, the Kashmir conflict and numerous military conflicts. Consequently, many years later, several attempts at peaceful conversations have failed.
